Cork Stuccocco

Cork can be used in place of the traditional stucco, be it Cementitious or Acrylic.  We have replaced both of the old versions of stucco with cork.  It looks very similar to Acrylic however performs much better. Cork will provide a flexible semi-smooth surface that is functional to the health of your home or office.

Cork Stucco

The process in which we apply cork Stucco to a home can change depending on the substrate that the home was built with.  We can apply cork to just about any surface but in some cases we do require a scratch coat or base coat first.

One way is to apply rigid styrofoam to the exterior of the wall with a fastener-less method.  This will prevent any thermal bridging from happening through the fastener to the structure.  The foam panels are essentially glued to the wall sheathing. This is done in a way that provides a drainage channel behind the sheets to allow any trapped moisture to flow down the wall and exit at the bottom to the outside.  This will prevent rotting of any wood.  With this method we also apply a liquid water proofing membrane to the exterior of the wall which acts like a rubber glove to the outside of the structure.

We then rasp the styrofoam to rough it up and give the next layer something great to bond to and bit into.  This also removes any oils that are on the surface from manufacturing or transportation.

We then apply a scratch coat that is a little different from the old paper, wire and mortar that was used in the past.  We apply a single coat product at is only 1/8" thick, it is troweled flat onto the wall with a fiberglass mesh layer worked into it for reinforcement.  This method will eliminate any possible rusting that could happen from the wire mesh or "stucco wire" getting wet, staining the stucco over time.  Lastly we spray one of over 30 colors of Cork as the finished layer to provide you with a long lasting flexable, mold and mildew resistant, fire proof coating.

Another option is to just apply our water proofing directly to a wood surface, skipping the styrofoam layer and continue with the scratch coat and cork layers.  The cork is still going to provide a thermal barrier even with out the styrofoam attached to the wall.  This method doesn't hide all of the imperfections of the wall but does look really good when finished.
